The UK Armed Forces and emergency services are being offered discounted memberships to help run a new football club which is targeting promotion to the Scottish Premiership by 2025.
OurFootballClub.com was launched at Hampden Park recently with fans across the globe being given the chance to ‘take control’ and assist in key decision-making processes as Lowland League side Edusport Academy undergoes a comprehensive restructuring for next season.
Managing director Chris Ewing is changing the business model of the South of Scotland champions following promotion into the fifth tier of Scottish football’s pyramid structure and is setting his sights on the top flight.
The former Motherwell striker hopes to provide the most innovative supporter experience in the world, with members being granted unprecedented access to the club with initial responsibilities including choosing the new name, crest, board of directors, signing targets and budget allocation.
The ground-breaking initiative has captured the imagination of football fans around the globe and Chris is hoping the discount on offer to the Armed Forces will help provide military personnel a sense of belonging regardless of where they may be stationed in the world.
Annual membership normally costs £25 but serving members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and the emergency services can enjoy a 20% discount and join for just £20 on the submission of a unique code when applying.
“I thought it was important to recognise in some way the fantastic work that these people do in helping keep our country safe,” said Chris. “With so many away from their families for lengthy periods, it cannot be easy being stationed away from home for so long.
“While recognising the incredible work being done by those who serve our country, I wanted to give them a chance to have a connection back home; give these men and women an opportunity to be part of football even though they may be 1000s of miles away from home.
“We want this to be the most innovative fan experience in the game. We aim to offer the best and most immersive supporter experience in world football, which is exactly what we feel the game needs.
“Geography is no barrier to a membership so wherever members of the Armed Forces are based, they can still enjoy a hands-on role in the running of the club. We are progressive, inclusive, and are looking to build and engage with an online community of passionate and knowledgeable football fans. Together, we can achieve great things, such as our primary aim of reaching the Premiership by 2025.”
A discount code will be published in the Armed Forces News which is available to use when signing up. Members of the Armed Forces or Emergency Services can also apply to receive the discount code by email via firstname.lastname@example.org. Membership discount is subject to evidence of eligibility.
